Danni Walton, Pub Manager, London
There are opportunities to work your way up to management.”
Following a degree in psychology in her native Australia, Danni’s travels brought her to the UK where she began working in bars to fund her travelling plans. Finding out that she enjoyed working in the industry led to her joining Barracuda in 2004 as an assistant manager.
From there Danni did lots of relief work, both internally and also as a holding manager at a number of other units. This experience, plus Danni’s interest and skills in kitchen management, led to her first pub manager appointment with Barracuda at a new busy city centre bar, and she also continues to undertake some training at other Barracuda pubs, particularly on the catering side.
Danni says: ‘I love the high energy nature of the job and the customer and staff relations - there are so many different aspects of the business to deal with and I really like the variety. I think Barracuda is a great company to work for - there is a lot of support and you really feel like there are opportunities for people who have come up through the ranks.’
Samantha Hume, Pub Manager, Scotland
“I enjoy the diversity of the role.”
When Barracuda opened its first pub in Scotland in 2004, Samantha joined the new team as the assistant manager, having previously worked at a late-night venue as bar staff and progressing up to assistant manager level.
Samantha enjoyed the culture and responsibilities that came with working at Barracuda and as the company expanded north of the border, she undertook several management relief shifts at various Barracuda Group pubs and bars across Scotland. This experience proved Samantha capable as a full time pub manager, so when the management position became available, she jumped at the chance.
Samantha says: ‘I enjoy the diversity of the role and the hustle and bustle that comes from running a big, Smith and Jones Pub. Since joining the company I feel like there are plenty of opportunities to progress and although you are encouraged to introduce your own ideas and promotions, you know that there is a lot of help and support that you can call on if you need it.’
